Is That a Glock 19? No, It’s A Block 19!!

I Want One

Utah, U.S.A. - In 2021, Culper Precision, a U.S. gun company, created a special Glock 19 called "Block19." This gun looked like it was made of Lego bricks. The company advertised it on social media in June 2021. To advertise means to tell people about something that you have for sale so they can buy it. Many people thought it was just a toy, but it was a real gun.

Mariah was shocked when she saw an advertisement for her favorite chair - that she was just thinking about!

But It Looks Cool

After pictures of the gun spread online, many people became upset. To upset someone means to bother them or to make them uncomfortable. Gun safety groups said it was dangerous because children might think it was a toy. Some people believed that making guns look fun could lead to accidents.

Henry was upset when he learned that sleeping doesn’t burn as many calories as he thought.

Lego Gets Salty

The Lego company did not like that a real gun looked like their famous toys. They sent a letter to Culper Precision asking them to stop making and selling the Block19. The gun company agreed and removed the product from their website in July 2021. When you agree you have the same opinion or feel the same way. You say yes to something.

I and Ana agree that watching your favorite series on Netflix is the best way to spend your weekend.

Safety On - Safety Off

Some experts worry about gun safety in the U.S. An expert is someone who knows a lot about a something. They say that more children are dying because of gun accidents. They believe that guns should be kept safely locked away so children cannot use them. Free gun locks are available to help keep homes safe.

Although Eden is an expert stunt driver, she still drives very safe on public roads.

But It’s Scary

The Block19 was a real gun that looked like a Lego toy. Many people thought it was unsafe, and Lego asked the company to stop making it. Gun safety is very important, and people need to be careful with firearms, especially around children. To be careful means to give a lot of attention to what you are doing so you don’t have an accident or make a mistake.

Be careful lending money to people because you might be giving them a donation.

Bonus: Today’s Idiom(s)

For my more advanced readers, tell me what you think in the comments below. We learned that Culper Percision may have “jumped the gun” when making the Block 19 but do you think the company, Culper Percision should “stick to their guns” and continue to make the Block 19? Also, I have some questions about guns in general: In 2024, how many people were killed with guns? Also, how many lives were saved with a guns? I’m not “putting a gun to your head” but I’m courious what you think.

The idiom, “put a gun to (someone’s) head” means to force someone to do something that they don’t want to do.
