Is The Cell Phone Extinct? Part 1
Out with the old and in with the new.
“There’s A New Boss.”
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, says mobile phones will not be important in the future. He believes that smart glasses will replace smartphones. When you replace something, you start to use a different thing other than what you’re using now. These glasses will help people communicate in a new way. Many technology companies are working on smart glasses now.
Harlan wasn’t sure his robot creation wouldn’t try to replace him in the future.
“Does Simplier Mean Better?”
Smartphones are very popular today, but some experts say they will not be needed in the future. Zuckerberg says people want easier and more natural ways to use technology. Mark believes that smart glasses will be more convenient. What convenient means here is that something is easy to use. Smart glasses are small and can be worn on the face. They let people see information without holding a phone.
Having a dragon to ride and roast your marshmallows is both convenient and cool!
“More Than Just A Phone”
Many companies, like Apple and Meta, are making smart glasses. Apple has Vision Pro, and Meta has Orion. These glasses can show maps, news, and other important information. People can also talk to them and ask questions. Many companies are investing in wearable technology. To invest means to give money to a business or a person hoping that you’ll make money from them in the future.
From his early college days, Elijah invested in video game companies. Now he’s a billionaire.
“Is The Future Here Now?”
Zuckerberg says that in the future, people will use their smartphones less. He thinks this will happen in the 2030s. Instead of looking at a phone screen, people will use smart glasses to do many tasks in daily life. The word instead means in place of something or someone else.
Don’t say very tall. Say colossal instead.
“The Next Step In Communication?”
Smart glasses could change the way people use technology. Many companies believe this is the next big step in communication. We do not know if phones will disappear completely, but technology is changing quickly. If something disappears it becomes impossible to see. Smart glasses may be the future of communicating.
Sarah is working on an invisibility cloak so she can disappear and play her favorite video game whenever she wants.
“Today’s Bonus Idiom”
For my more advanced readers, “drop me a line” and let me know what you think. Will smart phones be replaced by smart glasses or will people prefer the old fashioned mobile devices. Let’s talk about it in the comments and remember to use at least one of the words you learned above.
