Who is Casey?
Orlando, Florida — In 2008, Casey Anthony became known around the world when her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, went missing. Casey, a young mother from Orlando, Florida, acted strangely, showing little emotion and telling many lies to the police. She was seen partying while her daughter was still missing, making people suspicious. If something is suspicious then it causes you to question or to doubt. Later that year, Caylee's skeleton was found, and Casey was accused of murder.
In the movie the Matrix, Morpheus became suspicious about the two identical black cats.
On That Day…
Caylee lived with her grandparents, Cindy and George Anthony. On June 16, 2008, Casey took her daughter and left the house. A month later, Cindy, Caylee’s grandmother, contacted the police, saying that Caylee had been missing for weeks. When you contact someone you communicate with them by talking or writing to them. She also reported a bad smell in Casey’s car, which made people think something terrible had happened.

Casey is Arrested
Casey also made up stories, including one about a nanny who had taken Caylee, but after investigation, this person did not exist. The police asked Casey, who else did you tell that your daughter was missing? Casey said coworkers at Disneyworld. When the police went there they learned that Casey worked there three years ago. Police arrested Casey and charged her with lying and neglecting her child. Investigators found evidence that pointed to Caylee’s death, including a hair in the car and chemicals linked to decomposition. Evidence means proof, such as video recordings, documents or witnesses that something is true.

Casey’s Trial
During the trial, prosecutors said Casey wanted to be free from being a mother. The defense argued that Caylee drowned in a pool and that Casey’s father helped cover it up. The expression, cover up, means to stop people from learning the truth about something bad. There was no strong proof that Casey had killed her daughter, and in July 2011, the jury found her not guilty of murder. She was only punished for lying to the police and was released from jail soon after.

In my opinion, a mother would not be able to rest from just the thought of a missing child. To me, Casey, the mother, got some “skeletons in her closet”.
The idiom, “skeleton in the closet”, means that someone has an embarrassing secret, or they’ve done bad things in the past that they don’t want to be made public.
